Now, the question is, what is the difference between a garden shed and a summer house? The answer is in fact that there is little difference. Some sheds are quite ornate, and some summer houses are quite utilitarian in their appearance.
A typical, but not ubiquitous difference is found in the construction material. Whilst wooden sheds (as opposed to the very functional appearing metal and plastic sheds) tend to use feather edged timber, summer houses tend to use shiplap or ‘log lap'. The differences between them being that feather edged finishes are of overlapping timbers, whereas ship lapped or log lapped involve interlocking timbers.
Other differences include the size of the windows and doors, and the amount of glass in them. Summerhouses tending to have a lot more glass than sheds.
